Acis & Galatea is the most famous of all pastoral operas, and Handel’s most successful work in his day. It is an enchanting musical masterpiece, with words by poet John Gay, best known for The Beggar’s Opera. Acis, the son of the spirit Pan, and the sea-nymph Galatea fall in love, but are thwarted by the monstrous one-eyed giant, Polyphemus. Mid Wales Opera present a fully-staged production, with instrumentalists from Rachel Podger’s ensemble Brecon Baroque.
