This summer school, tutored by some of the most eminent experts in the
business, aims to teach players of modern instruments (tuned to A=440 Hz) the
skills peculiar to the playing of baroque chamber music. Participants will attend
workshops devoted to such matters as the principles of continuo playing and
ornamentation. We will create small chamber groups, matching as best we can
players of compatible abilities, but these groups will be supervised and may change
personnel during the course. There may also be sessions involving larger groups.
We require good sight-reading skills and/or the ability to learn unfamiliar music
swiftly, as well as open minds ready to assimilate and put into practice information
which might be new to students. Because of the need to maintain a workable
balance of instrumentalists please note that we might need to delay confirmation
of some bookings. Participants can bring their own choice of music, but we may
also send a list of set works to prepare before the course.
