02.10.13 October 2nd till 6th, 2013, Basel, Switzerland
BASEL PLUCKS (October 2nd – 6th, 2013) is a festival featuring prominent lute and guitar players living and teaching in Basel, presented by the Basel Music Academy in collaboration with the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, the Basel University of Music and the FHNW. It celebrates the richness and diversity of the Basel musical scene, which is home to one of the world’s highest concentration of talent in this field. The lute is represented in its most important incarnations from the medieval, renaissance and baroque periods as both a solo instrument and in song accompaniment. The classical guitar is represented in its familiar, 6-string form as well as an 8-string, 10-string and 13-string instrument, and the repertoire surveys its development from the baroque period through today. Improvisation is the focal point in performances on electric guitar and the Indian sarod. In addition to evening performances, there will be daily master classes, lectures and workshops. Events will take place at the Basel Music Academy. For further information please visit: www.facebook.com/baselplucks, or send a message to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
