Opening their Associate Artist series, Early Opera Company celebrate two of the most important arrivals in Germany during the 17th century: Johann Sebastian Bach and a newfangled drink called coffee! In Leipzig, Zimmermann’s Coffee House was the place to get a caffeine fix and also hear compositions from the soirées of the Collegium Musicum. It was for this ensemble that Bach wrote his Coffee Cantata warning fathers in the highly caffeinated audience of the terrible dangers if they let their daughters near such a stimulating drink. Following the performance, baristas from the Whitechapel Coffee Company will showcase caffeinated inspiration of a different kind — the art behind the perfect cup of coffee.
