Guitarist/composer David Braid and pianist Sergei Podobedov present Renaissance and Baroque music with a fresh, contemporary twist, alongside new works by David himself including the world premiere of his new work Symphony for Two
David Braid and Sergei Podobedov make up this unique, London-based ensemble, The Braid-Podobedov Duo, which combines the past and future in programmes of Renaissance and Baroque music alongside contemporary works. The two originally teamed up to play jazz as students at the Royal College of Music but decided to turn their attention to the great contrapuntal music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, combining instruments that blend seamlessly to produce a remarkable tone.
David and Sergei have devised a special programme for this performance at Wilton’s, using their own transcriptions of the music of composers such as Sweelinck, Bach and Byrd together with brand new works by David, composed for the unusual and idiomatic instrumentation of piano and a type of guitar usually associated with jazz.
The Braid-Podobedov Duo have recently appeared at: The Forge, Camden; The Studio at St James Theatre; The Schott Recital Room, St Bride’s Church, Fairfield Hall and many others. Wilton’s is delighted to welcome their unique style of performance to The Chrysalis Club.
