For this themed day, which will explore original 17th century information on how to play French baroque lute music, we are delighted to welcome two of the world’s leading interpreters of this music, Fred Jacobs, who is launching a second volume of his French theorbo recordings, and who has recently found an overlooked printed source touching on 17th century lute playing, and Chris Wilson, who imagines a lesson with Charles Mouton, based on his famous portrait, music and written advice. Benjamin Narvey joins us from Paris to give a mini-recital of French baroque music, and staying in the 17th century though not in France, lutherie student Sheldon Gabriel presents the trials and tribulations of attempts to reconstruct one of Praetorius’ oddities: a harp-lute. Definitely not to be missed!
