Retrospect Ensemble presents a semi-staged production of Haydn’s charming comic chamber opera in a new English translation by John Warrack, conducted by Justin Doyle and directed by Joe Austin.
The apothecary Sempronio is guardian to the beautiful, rich, young Grilletta and intends to marry her. His assistant Mengone and his rival Volpino have similar intentions. Duels, rash decisions, jealousy and disguises all follow…everything one would hope for in a quick-fire comedy.
Robert Murray (Sempronio)
Ildiko Allen (Grilletta)
Alexander Sprague (Mengone)
Louise Innes (Volpino)
