DAVID BRAID electric-archtop guitar
SERGEI PODOBEDOV piano
In this unique concert, the highly original Braid-Podobedov Duo will premiere their new (2014) transcriptions of works by Sweelinck plus Byrd, Gibbons and other composers from the C.15th/16th Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, alongside first performances of new duos and solos by David Braid, plus various solos by Chopin and other later composers.
David Braid (electric-archtop guitar) and Sergei Podobedov (piano) make up this unique, London-based duo that combines the past and future in programmes of Renaissance and Baroque music alongside brand new works by the duo’s guitarist, David.
David and Sergei make their own transcriptions of the organ music of Sweelinck, Byrd, Gibbons, Tallis, J.S. Bach, et al, the combining of these two instruments produces a truly remarkable tone colour and is achieved by David’s use of a semi-acoustic archtop guitar, which blends seamlessly with the piano.
The duo orchestrate the works as would an organist, resulting in a fresh but stylistically-sensitive approach to this fascinating music of the contrapuntal school.
Ticketholders are invited to join the performers in the Club’s exclusive bar and lounge after the performance.
