The European Union Baroque Orchestra gives the third concert in its four-concert series at St John’s Smith Square, London, with director Gottfried von der Goltz (of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra) on Thursday 17 October 2013 at 7.30pm. Maestro von der Goltz directs an inspiring programme, based around superstar violinist Johann Georg Pisendel and his remarkable circle of friends and colleagues, who composed and performed for the Court of the Electors of Saxony in Dresden in the early 18th century, when the city was considered a European music centre of excellence. And one of today’s leading German violinists Gottfried von der Goltz can draw together talents from all over Europe in the members of EUBO to re-explore some of the music by Pisendel, Telemann, Vivaldi and Zelenka from this wonderful period in Dresden’s history.
‘Sweet as the fruits of an almond tree’ – a description of Zelenka’s music by his friend the Dresden violinist Johann Pisendel in a letter to Georg Philipp Telemann
