Baroque Celebrations

The ever-popular University of York Baroque Ensemble appears once more at the Festival to celebrate the anniversaries of three Baroque composers. Carl Philip Emanuel, born 300 years ago, is represented by one of his explosively inventive string symphonies; widely travelled virtuoso violinist, Pietro Locatelli, who died in 1764, is featured in an elegant sinfonia and concerto grosso; and Frenchman Jean-Philippe Rameau, another who died in 1764, is heard in a suite of typically colourful dances from his operas.
