I Fagiolini member Nicholas Hurndall Smith has raised almost £10,000 for charity with his project ‘Tenor at the Top’.

Nicholas set out this August to reach the summit of the Matterhorn. He flew to the Alps to start his feat the day after having performed with I Fagiolini at The Proms.

The unguided climb took the tenor three days to complete. Nicholas had originally intended to climb both the Matterhorn and the Meije, but the second climb was postponed due to dangerous weather conditions.

The ‘Tenor at the Top’ project raised beyond its £8,462 target (the combined altitude of both mountains) for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

Nicholas spoke of the support he’s received during the project: ‘I have had a tremendously positive response from many generous colleagues – it made me realise what a fantastic group of colleagues we have.’
