Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s most renowned work Stabat Mater has been published in its original form for the first time by Edition Walhall. It was presented at Musikmesse Frankfurt, the international music fair, in April.

The original manuscript is currently held at Benedictine Abbey of Monte Cassino in Italy. The publication of the facsimile will allow researchers to further study the ambiguous passages of the piece.

Pergolesi composed Stabat Mater in 1736, during the last few weeks of his life. He is also remembered for being an early composer of opera buffa and for works such as La Serva Padrona.
