The National Centre for Early Music (NCEM) has announced details of the composers award 2013. Next year’s competition is to be held in partnership with BBC Radio 3, baroque ensemble Florilegium and the Bath International Music Festival.
The winning pieces will be premiered by Florilegium at next year’s Bath International Music Festival. Director of NCEM Delma Tomlin said that having their work performed at the festival will be: ‘a great honour for the young composers at this stage in their careers.’ The winning entries will also be recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s Early Music Show.
To enter this year’s award, applicants must register by 8 February 2013. The deadline for scores to be submitted is 8 March. The 2013 competition will be officially opened on 2 November on BBC Radio 3’s Early Music Show.
Florilegium director Ashley Solomon said: ‘We hope this year’s competition will promote inspiring new works for baroque chamber ensembles, and look forward to collaborating with the successful composers during the workshops and later in the year when we premiere their works.’
