A call for scores has opened for a new piece for unaccompanied viola da gamba. The competition is open to composers of any age and nationality. Entries should be original, unpublished pieces and up to five minutes in length.
The winning pieces will be recorded by viola da gamba player Andrew Arceci (pictured), who has previously performed at the Brighton Early Music Festival and performed with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. The recordings will feature on a new disc devoted to new compositions for the viola da gamba. Winners will receive ten copies of the CD. The winning entries will also be performed at concerts in the US, Thailand and UK.
Applications should be submitted anonymously, with entrants providing only their telephone number for contact (including their international code). Shortlisted composers will be contacted to discuss their entries.
The deadline for submissions is 20 September 2013. There is a non-refundable entry fee of £10 ($20 USD).
