NCEM hires out venue to support education work

St Margaret’s Church, part of the National Centre for Early Music (NCEM) in York, is available to hire for the first time. The church is a Grade 1 listed building dating back to the eleventh century. In 1997 the Arts Council Lottery Fund awarded the York Early Music Foundation £1.5 million to renovate the church, which fell into disuse in the 1960s.

NCEM director Delma Tomlin said of the centre’s new venture: ‘The NCEM is a multi-purpose building. We can guarantee that the relaxed atmosphere created by our welcoming and friendly staff will ensure that all occasions are memorable.

‘By allowing people to hire this beautiful and superbly equipped building we will generate additional revenue, which will then be used to develop our education work in the future.’

St Margaret’s can be hired for a great number of events, such as wedding receptions, musical soirees or dinners. The NCEM describe St Margaret’s as the ‘perfect venue for live music – string quartets, jazz, classical musicians or ceilidh bands.’
